We Raise Happy, Healthy Hogs
Free to roam, root, forage, and wallow all of their lives
We get most of our hogs once they’re weaned (“weaners”). Our hogs live outside on pasture with shelter available. They’re free to roam, root, forage, and wallow. Sometimes they have access to fresh grass; Other times they roam around brushy old hazelnut orchards.
Sometimes we contract with another farmer to raise some hogs for us in accordance with our Production Protocol (i.e. small social groups, free to roam, fed non-GMO feed).
Breeds: We raise a variety of breeds, including Berkshire, Hampshire, Duroc, Red Wattle, Tamworth, Old Blacks, and Glouchester Old Spot.
Feed: In addition to the roots, nuts, and plants that they find in the pastures, we feed our hogs Certified Organic, non-GMO feed that is milled locally. The feed contains peas, wheat, barley, flax seeds (ground), camelina seed meal, alfalfa meal, kelp meal, and other minerals and nutrients.
Nutrition: Studies show that pork raised this way is higher in Vitamin E and Omega-3 fatty acids than is commercial pork. Plus it’s much more flavorful and juicy.
How to buy: Our pork comes frozen. Individual packages of cuts are available at any of our locations. Cuts include chops, roasts, ribs, belly, and more. Halves and wholes can be custom processed or finished as described above, and can be ordered online and picked up at any of our locations.
No hormones or routine antibiotics – ever!
